How many flies should I keep with me when fly fishing?

Having a certain number of flies is important when you go fishing. Usually you will be fishing for one kind of fish other times it may be three or four different species. The important part is not the number but what you feel most effective with. It is usually good to have three or four constant flies that you have whenever you go after a particular fish or are fishing a particular location. It is also good to take five more out with you in order to try out new lures and the techniques to use them in order to become a more accomplished fisherman. In the case of a beginner fisherman I would just start out with four different flies for one day. This allows them ample time to find out what is the best technique without getting frustrated and moving on to the next one without giving them a good shot. A more advanced fisherman may bring out as many different flies as they have because they will be able to tell what is going to work and what has no chance on the water that day.
